Black Tickle/Domino has a population of 191. Black Tickle/Domino is located on the Island of Ponds off the southeast coast of Labrador. It was founded in the mid - nineteenth century by a British Seaman. It was a traditional fishing community which once served as the Cod Capital of the province drawing in fisher folk from across the province and as far away as Quebec. Presently it is a community searching for a future in the midst of difficult economic times.

Water: The community lacks a water and sewer service. However, the Labrador School
Board owned teacher's residence has water and sewer services.
Fuel: Provided by Woodward's Group of Companies. Fuel is usually bought in bulk at
the beginning of the school year.
Air:
Air Labrador
(1 800 563 3042) provides
flights on Monday, Wednesday & Friday. A return ticket to Goose Bay
costs approximately $450.00 (tax included) A return ticket to St. Anthony costs
approximately $450.00 (tax included).
Marine:
Labrador Marine Services usually operates between July 01 to Nov 15;
depending on the ice conditions.
Local: In the spring, summer and fall, ATV's and automobiles are commonly used. In the
winter, the common mode of transportation is snowmobiles.

Telecom - Newtel provides the local service.
Radio/T.V: Regional Cable Services provided a service of 19 channels which costs
approximately $40.00 a month. However, many community residences
have purchased satellite dishes. Radio (CBC) can only be accessed
through the cable.
Mail: Service provided by Canada Post. A Nor Ex services is provided by Air
Labrador.
Medical: A
nurse's station is staffed with one nurse year round. A doctor and a
public health nurse visit periodically from Goose Bay and Cartwright,
Labrador respectively. This service is provided by the Health Labrador
Corporation.
Religion: The community has a Roman Catholic Church and an Anglican Church.
The Roman Catholic Church - Good Shepherd Church contact is Father Tim
Moriarity. The Anglican Church contact is Reverend Graham Hill who visits periodically from Cartwright, Labrador.
RCMP:
The police detachment in Cartwright Labrador is staffed on a regular basis with at least three
officers who service the local area.
Retail Outlet: There is one local retail outlet in the local area: T & S Variety a convenience store.
Accommodations: There are no hotels or boarding houses in the local area but the teacher's
residence and another community member often provides accommodations
to traveling school board employees and other visitors.
Sports, Recreation
& Leisure: Residents enjoy winter activities such as snowmobiling, ice fishing,
outings to "The Bay" and Cartwright, Labrador by snowmobile. Summer activities include camping, boating, trout fishing and berry picking.
Education: St. Peter's School provides kindergarten to level three program. Distance
Education is also available to interested community members.
Teacher Housing: The Labrador School Board owns and operates a teacher's residence which
is in close proximity to the school.

Household: All major appliances are provided in the teacher's residence. Individuals should
provide all personal items such as bedding, dishes, television, stereo, etc.
Groceries: Most items are available locally. However, fresh fruit and vegetables are not
available regularly during the winter months. Most teachers buy groceries in bulk
at the beginning of the school year from wholesales in St. Anthony, St. John's or
Happy Valley - Goose Bay.
Clothing: Warm winter gear and rain gear are essential and advisable
to accommodate our
cold winters and wet spring and fall.
