Postville |
|
The community of Postville with a population of 240 is situated on the north side of Kaipokok Bay. It sits in the shade of a beautiful hill which is just across from the village. The area around Postville is forested by spruce, fir, birch and juniper. Alder willows, marshes, ponds and brooks also make up the landscape.
Just above Postville is a rapid and islands which lead to the upper bay. There, an abundant supply of trout, char, smelts and rockcods are fished for subsistence and recreation almost year round. Migratory birds also flock to the area in spring and fall. Caribou frequently travel through the community and if your lucky enough to get a license you'll most likely get your moose.
The economy depends largely on seasonal employment with the local sawmill, Torngat Housing Corporation, community council and Torngat Fisheries as the main employers.
