accesses the Towns of
Labrador City and Wabush. The Highway is a gravel
road in most places and paved in others. Route 500 - Labrador West to Goose Bay accesses the Town of Happy
Valley-Goose Bay from western Labrador. The Highway is a high quality gravel
road. In the near future the highway will be continuous from Labrador West
through to Happy Valley-Goose Bay directly to Cartwright and on to Lanse au
Loup. Currently the road has only been extended, route 501, from
Cartwright to Lanse au Loup. For travelers along the road there is full service stops in Labrador
West. In Churchill Falls there are limited services. There may not be 24 hour services available in these communities.
Once in Happy Valley-Goose Bay complete and full services to meet any travelers needs can be found. The distances between services and the
wilderness setting means that travelers should plan accordingly. The distance
between Labrador City and Churchill Falls is approximately 238 kilometers, and
288 kilometers between Churchill Falls and Happy Valley-Goose Bay. When
planning to travel the Trans-Labrador Highway, contact the Provincial
Department of Works, Service and Transportation at 1 709 896 7840 to check on
road conditions.

Labrador Loppet on groomed, lighted trails. Three kilometers, 4 lanes. Log rest cabins. Ski rentals.

Smokey Mountain Alpine Skiing -
Lodge in the scenic Wapusakatta Mountains, 5 km from
Labrador City, offers 1,000 ft. vertical skiing on all natural snow. One double chair and three pomo
lifts. Nineteen groomed trails as well as off trail areas, provide excellent skiing for beginners,
intermediate, and advanced skiers. Base lodge, ski & snowboard rentals and lessons. Canteen & bar
service.
Labrador City Arena -
The Town of Labrador City owns and operates the Arena located on Booth
Avenue. Some activities and events hosted by the recreation department are: adult pond skating,
family skating, local Polaris Figure Skating Club host - provincial competitions and ice shows, local
hockey organizations such as Minor Hockey League host - provincial tournaments, there is also a
scrap hockey league.
Parks
- Duley Family Park - Located off Route 530 between Labrador City and Fermont. The
only Family Park serving border towns in Newfoundland and Quebec. Campsites are available on
Duley Lake front or along side Walsh River.
Tanya Park
- Located on Baden-Powell Road. Tanya Park is a site for Festivals, swimming, and
picnics during the summer months.
Peace Park
- Located on the corner of Avalon Drive and Drake Avenue. Peace Park was
originally designed to beautify the town of Labrador City. During summer months, Peace Park is
well known for its live entertainment gatherings. It is also a place to just sit and relax.
Crystal Falls Hiking Trail
- One
kilometer hiking trail to the top of Crystal Falls. Spectacular
view of communities and the surrounding countryside. Great photo opportunities.
IOCC Tour
- You can book a tour of IOCC (Iron Ore Company of Canada) through Labrador
West Tourism from June through August. This tour offers you an opportunity to visit the largest
iron ore production site in North America.
Wabush Mines Tour
- You can book a tour of Wabush Mines through Labrador West Tourism from
June through August. This tour offers you an opportunity to visit this site and view the many different
techniques of iron ore mining.
