Responsible Internet Usage Policy |
|
While the major focus of this policy will address Internet access, this policy applies to all forms of information technology used in schools and offices operated by the Labrador School Board. The School Board provides access to information technology and the Internet to further its educational goals and objectives. Parents should be aware that student account holders have the potential to access unacceptable material while using the Internet; however, the school's and school system's access guidelines are in place to prevent students from potentially accessing said material while in school. Unacceptable material are deemed to be sites which contain information that is pornographic in nature, defamatory, grossly inaccurate or potentially offensive to users. If a student happens to access such inappropriate sites accidentally, then he/she should immediately notify a teacher of the site so that it can be added to the Internet filtering software. Furthermore, students and parents must understand that the provided Internet access is a privilege, not a right, and the management, faculty, and administrative staff of the The Labrador School Board may deny, revoke, or suspend specific user accounts, accesses and privileges as a result of irresponsible or inappropriate behaviour.
The Labrador School Board makes no warranty with respect to network services and specifically assumes no responsibilities for the 1) the content of any advice of information received by a student from an outside source, 2) any costs, liability or damages caused by the way the student chooses to use his/her network access, 3) any consequences of service interruptions or changes, even if these disruptions arise from circumstances under the control of the Labrador School Board, 4) and privacy of electronic mail, which cannot be guaranteed and should not be used for confidential correspondence.
